Hi. Welcome to my weekly fitness newsletter, bringing to you the answers to questions I get asked daily about nutrition, health and exercise.

Today I am going to explain to you about the times when the theory of calories out/calories in, can appear to be a myth!
I myself have experienced this situation and one thing you must never do is give in on this situation, for me I can put it to use as personal experience and pass on advice to others but for clients , these times can be very frustrating. Below I’m sharing my methods to help you.

I don’t know about all of you but the last six weeks appears to have been another big change in many peoples lives. Listening in across the board family and relationships have been prevalent in change. When these major changes occur they can rock our routines if we allow, or we find our daily routines have to change. This is a time when exercise often lapses but really it can be a huge benefit in getting you through changes, both mentally and physically. Ardent exercisers often live the mantra , eat , sleep workout to get through these phases. Possibly not where everybody sees themselves but maybe try and keep that balance in , even set yourself a short term challenge to help you through the change transition.
Summer has been a busy one in the fitness industry and fortunately no dip ,fitness holidays are on the up and businesses are seeing the importance of offering more health and fitness benefits within their companies. I am enjoying both these booms right now and if you wish some advice at what you can offer to your employees then please mail me at [email protected]. for a prospectus or a chat. Sospacorporate offer many packages.

I am on fitness holidays from 2ND to 23rd October in Greece. If you wish to join my on line training to keep on track while I am away then mail me and we can train together on line daily.

The weight won’t shift…
You’re at a loss. You don’t know what’s going on. It doesn’t seem to matter how much you know about diet and exercise, or how much you do diet and exercise, those extra kilos won’t budge.

You’ve tried eating healthier and exercising harder, but it makes no difference. In fact, it seems to cause you to eat more of those ‘bad carbs.’ No matter how hard you try, you just can’t seem to stop this vicious cycle. You feel fed-up, annoyed and disheartened and you don’t know what to do.

It’s demoralising for a smart, intelligent and educated woman, who is successful in most areas of her life, to be beaten by the seemingly simple task of losing weight. It seems like it should be so easy; What has worked before just isn’t cutting it now,cut the calories, up the exercise, create an energy deficiency and weight loss occurs. It’s simple mathematics. But it’s not adding up for you at the moment! In fact, you are gaining the opposite result. What is going on here? Are you stuck forever in this vicious cycle? Or is there a way out for you?

You’ll be happy to know there is a way out. ‘What a relief’, I hear you say! So how about I explain why you’re stuck.

Now the main reason why these kilos won’t budge no matter how hard you try is because of a nasty hormone called cortisol. It is released when you feel stressed. The more stressed you feel, the more cortisol is pumped into your body. Cortisol’s role is to store body fat to see you through the stressful times. It causes you to ‘eat more’, put on weight and keep that weight on so that you’ll be safe! Great!
It’s not because you can’t lose weight, you can and will again. it’s because your hormones are keeping you fat.
Here are three pointers that I tell my So Lean And Clean People.

Check 1

Be willing to accept that ‘doing more’ is not going to achieve your goal. Yes, keep with your ‘healthy eating’ and regular exercise, without wiping yourself out, but ‘doing more’ is only causing you more stress and the stress is making you fat!

Check 2

Find methods to help you relax. There are many ways to ‘slow down’.IE. yoga, meditation, prayer or slow walking in the park or beautiful space. Be willing to open your mind to which method is best for you.

Check 3

Once you find the method of slowing down that works for you, persist with it. It takes time, at least three months, to experience the full benefit. The more your body releases the stress, and the less you create the stress, the less cortisol you will produce. The less cortisol you produce the less you will crave those ‘bad carbs’, the more the kilos will come off. Problem solved.
When you do exercise , try short bursts of exercise to awaken your rhythm and metabolism. Don’t choose this time to start long endurance training such as marathon training. Choose an exercise that you enjoy and can sing along to during the short bursts , or have a laugh with a friend at the same time. This will keep you from thinking of any problems or that you should be some where else negative guilty feelings.
