If you’re wondering how to fit exercise into a busy schedule, you’re definitely not alone.
Maybe you’re also thinking…
“Go away, Gail. It’s Friday!” ?
But hear me out.
The weekend is actually one of the BEST times to get your fitness organised.
Not to decide that Monday you’ll start a ridiculous new regime.
Not to plan six workouts, a perfect diet and 5am starts.
Just ten minutes to look at your week ahead and ask:
Where does looking after ME actually fit?
For many of the women I work with through Personal Training and StrengthFit in Lichfield, the biggest problem isn’t knowing they should exercise.
It’s figuring out how to make fitness work alongside jobs, children, family, social lives and everything else competing for their time.
And here’s something we don’t talk about enough:
Fitness takes organisation.
How to Fit Exercise Into a Busy Schedule
People who exercise consistently aren’t necessarily more motivated than you.
They’ve often just got better at organising it.
And that is a skill you can learn.
Your workout isn’t magically going to find an empty space in your diary.
Sometimes you have to deliberately make one.
But that doesn’t mean fitness needs to take over your life.
Stop Planning for Your Fantasy Life
This is where so many people go wrong.
They create an exercise schedule for the life they WISH they had rather than the one they’re actually living.
If Wednesday is always chaos, stop planning your workout for Wednesday!
If you’re exhausted after work, repeatedly promising yourself you’ll go to the gym at 7pm probably isn’t working either.
Could you train in the morning?
At lunchtime?
Could two or three focused strength sessions work better than trying to exercise every day?
Don’t create a fitness plan for your fantasy life. Create one for the life you actually live.
Strength Training for Busy Women
Strength training doesn’t need to mean spending hours in the gym.
Two or three effective sessions each week can be a fantastic starting point.
What matters is what you do during those sessions.
Are you progressively challenging yourself?
Are you concentrating on your sets and reps?
Are you actually working the muscles you’re trying to train?
Are you eating and recovering sufficiently to support your training?
We’re not just strength training for how our bodies look today.
We’re building muscle, strength and physical capability for the decades ahead.
I want women training for what they want their bodies to DO in their 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond.
Stop Relying on Motivation
Motivation comes and goes.
Consistency is something we build.
This is a big part of what I work on with women through Personal Training and StrengthFit at Gail Abbey Fitness in Lichfield.
We find out what realistically fits YOUR life.
When can you train?
How often do you actually need to train?
What exercises are appropriate for your body?
When should you push harder?
When do you need recovery?
The goal is for fitness to stop being something you’re constantly trying to “get back into”.
Eventually, it simply becomes part of your life.
Try This 10-Minute Weekend Fitness Plan
Before Sunday evening, open your diary.
Look at what’s already happening next week.
Then choose your training days.
Maybe your week contains:
- 2–3 strength sessions
- A yoga class
- A Personal Training session
- A couple of walks
- A short mobility session on a busy day
Put them in your diary.
Then treat those appointments with yourself with the same importance you’d give an appointment with somebody else.
Don’t aim for a perfect week. Aim for a repeatable one.
And if you’ve been saying:
“I really need to get organised and start training properly…”
Well…
You were looking for a sign. THIS IS IT.
