My Name is Gail & I Am A Sugar Addict

December 16th, 2014 | Posted by Gail in So Lean And Clean - (Comments Off on My Name is Gail & I Am A Sugar Addict)

My name is Gail and I AM A SUGAR ADDICT

Yes its true, I am coming out.
These are the words I had to say four years ago when I realised sugar was dominating my eating habits.

Breakfast:
I open the cupboard , scanned for the sweetest food.
No cake there so lets go for the porridge, honey and yep raisins should just about make it right. = SUGAR

Mid morning: I’m STARVING! How can that be after such a large bowl of porridge?

Mullerlight yoghurt & fruit as a snack it is then. =SUGAR

I would then get one hour on and again be opening cupboards seeking for food.

Lunch
Ready supermarket spit roast chicken with a sweet crunchy salad and pineapple chunks =SUGAR

See where this is going. It all sounds healthy yes? But a dollop of sugar on or in EVERYTHING.

Drinks
Get this !!! HOT blackcurrant squash , low calorie/sugar of course 😉 I would no way have full fat! kidding myself and know it or what!?
About four cups a day. =SUGAR

Fruit snack between dinner and tea
Banana =SUGAR

Evening Meal

Not that hungry will just have a bowl of chopped apple, mandarin, pear with a pot of yoghurt & honey!! =SUGAR

I realised I had a problem, things had to change, the weight actually was staying the same so thats good right?

NO. The impact is on the internal organs, placing the pancreas, under stress and a whole load of other issues .

8 reasons sugar is bad for you

1.Added sugars (like sucrose and high fructose corn syrup) contain a whole bunch of calories with NO essential nutrients.

For this reason, they are called “empty” calories.

2. When repeatedly eating large amounts of sugar this can lead to non alcohol related fatty liver disease and all sorts of serious problems. There has been and increase of in the UK for fatty liver disease.

3. Sugar can cause insulin resistance , a stepping stone towards diabetes & metabolic syndrome.

4.Insulin resistance can progress to type II Diabetes.

5.Due to its effects on the brain & hormones sugar can has unique fat promoting effects.

6.Because sugar causes a massive high of dopamine release in the brain sugar is highly addictive.

7.Sugar is a leading contributor to high levels of obesity in adults & children.

8. Studies show that sugar releases triglycerides, small dense LDL, and oxidise LDL , raise blood glucose and insulin levels & increase belly fat in just 10 weeks . That is also abdominal fat surrounding the vital organs remember,MAJOR RISK FACTORS FOR HEART DISEASE.

So am I cured?

No, My addiction will always lie there . Do you recognise the symptoms?

I kicked it, you can , it isn’t easy but can be done.

I can help you on So Lean & Clean online.
Explain the trigger foods, what not to do, how to prepare against challenging days.
How to recover quickly from a blip and more..

My typical day now goes like this:

Breakfast

Spinach omelette with a crunchy side salad

Lunch

Chicken breast with broccoli and a tablespoon of homemade hummus. If EVER use shop bought always check the back to be sure for tahini, chick peas and olive oil. NO SUGAR

Dinner

Homemade stew with sweet potatoes and parsnips ( This satiates the brain as the veg are dense carbs and not fast insulin producing , a slow release into the blood stream )

Occasionally I will buy some green and blacks or natural quality chocolate, sweet substitute.

DRINKS

WATER LITRES OF, GREEN TEA, alcohol once a week .

If you check back you will see the alcohol I recommend if you don’t want to give up your tipple.

No cravings.

I will be writing more on the consequences of sugar in the diet & what the guises sugar comes in. It helps keep me in track too !

Have a great week.

Super Strong Saturday

June 7th, 2014 | Posted by Gail in Uncategorized - (Comments Off on Super Strong Saturday)

Kali mera ( good morning Greek  ) I’m getting ready for next weeks fitness break !

So who went off plan last night ?

Well I hope it was worth it if you did . And it was a conscious decision to gain a lb !

Well its true isn’t it , because thats what we are potentially doing .

We sacrifice that extra bit of body fat diminishing and await the slightly lethargic feeling that comes with eating/drinking the trash.
When you decide to go off road , what other conscious decisions do you make ?
Me I make a decision to go extra hard/fast in the gym .

A little bit longer maybe. AND I DON’T BREAK THAT PROMISE TO MYSELF . ( Diary of a fitness junkie )

What promise will you be keeping ?

Daily Motivation -Feel Good Friday

June 7th, 2014 | Posted by Gail in Uncategorized - (Comments Off on Daily Motivation -Feel Good Friday)

Good morning all
Wow sun is shining yippee !
I’m at the gym already after morning clients and booked into spin . Weights before – FEELIN ALIVE !
I’m gonna bust my ass !
Have you got loads if energy or aren’t you quite feeling it ?
Don’t wait for your body to scream energy if you are on first base with exercise .
You HAVE TO get breathless in your activity , to progress , clean out , clear toxins , lift mood and then reap the reward.
Staying on your feet in day to day activity .
Sitting in work will make you lethargic so it’s essential to move a little before , at lunchtime and after and get BREATHLESS , heart rate pump blood to the muscles , oxygenated blood coursing through the veins into muscle around the body –
If not it’s on SNOOZE mode for all the day .
MAkE A DIFFERENCE this Friday xxx

So Lean And Clean News

November 9th, 2013 | Posted by Gail in So Lean And Clean - (Comments Off on So Lean And Clean News)

I MUST SHARE THIS POST WITH ALL THE PEOPLE WHO FEEL THAT IMPROVING THEIR HEALTH IS AN OVERWHELMING THOUGHT, READ ON FOR INSPIRATION. This is a post from yesterday on my private group So Lean And Clean Group.
Morning all, I am shortly off to TRX and will follow it by at least 60 mins hard cardio. I joined SLAC a year ago at a truly horrifying weight of over 17 stones ( probably nearer 17 7). How I ever let myself get that big I will never know, but the fact is I did. I think it creeps up on you and even though I knew I was big and knew what I weighed I never thought I was as big as I was. I have always been active and easily walked 6 miles a day so I didn’t feel unfit ( although at that weight I must have been). Today, a year on, I am still hugely overweight (12 5) but I am getting there and firmly believe I have made lifestyle changes that will stay with me. I know I will never regain the weight, equally I know it will be a lifelong battle but one I now feel in control of. My aim is to be a goal weight (9 12) by May, which I feel is a realistic. And achievable goal. Thank you all for your help I couldn’t have come so far without the help and support of SLAC especially you Gail Abbey, without whom I wouldn’t have started this journey and certainly wouldn’t have come this far so a very BIG thank you to you. One thing I would say, is that if anyone had said to me a year ago, that it would take a year to lose 5 stones I probably wouldn’t have started because I would have wanted all of my weight to have gone in a lot less time. Now I am so pleased it didn’t ( don’t get me wrong I wish I was slim) as I have learned so much about myself this past year. I have pushed my body way out of its comfort zone, I burn calories before I consume them, and I love being fit. Running for 40 mins earlier this week was a huge achievement for me after a lifetime of saying I can’t run. A quick fix would never have had me running or indeed pushing myself to the extent I am. Our situation ( ie no jobs) a year ago would have led to pounds piling on and me justifying them. Now I work my frustrations out at the gym. So a quick fix SLAC certainly isn’t – but what it is is so much more a lifestyle change and I have met some wonderful friends along the way, although not in person yet xxxxx

Love Your Body And It Will Love You Right Back

February 14th, 2013 | Posted by Gail in Client News - (Comments Off on Love Your Body And It Will Love You Right Back)

At this time of year Its full swing into many weight loss plans with clients.

Peoples eating habits are fascinating! People are still eating  what is  thought to be ‘healthy’ foods due to clever labeling . Buying a meal deal from a garage with ‘low fat’ low cal or no added sugar splashed all over it, a sandwich, bag of crisps and a yoghurt. It must be ‘healthy  Or else they wouldn’t be able to sell it as that right?

I regularly see  a  blank food diary other than coffee and a cereal bar until 7 pm and then a bowl of pasta and a bottle of wine? Where is the nutrition?

Sometimes we just see food as something that either makes us fat or makes us thin. When I look at somebody’s  food diary the first thing I am looking for is fresh nutrients that will energize, feed nurture and love the body.

Below are 10 facts about your amazing body to help you understand more why loving the right food is essential for health. Once you begin to understand the reasons good clean fuel is needed to enrich the body then the the positive changes in weight loss, digestion, energy levels and the immune system will start to kick in to place.

All  clients who started in January have been following the So Lean and Clean fat loss way of eating and fantastic results have occurred combined with moderate exercise.

10 reasons to eat the best foods.

1)You use 200 muscles to take one step. Depending on how you divide up muscle groups, just to take a single step you use 200 muscles. That’s a lot of work for the muscles considering most of us take about 10,000 steps a day.

2)Nerve impulses to and from the brain travel as fast as 170 miles per hour. Ever wonder how you can react so fast to things around you or why that stubbed toe hurts right away? It’s due to the super-speedy movement of nerve impulses from your brain to the rest of your body and vice versa, bringing reactions at the speed of a Ferrari

3)The human heart creates enough pressure to squirt blood 30 feet.No wonder you can feel your heartbeat so easily. Pumping blood through your body quickly and efficiently takes quite a bit of pressure resulting in the strong contractions of the heart and the thick walls of the ventricles which push blood to the body.

4)Humans shed about 600,000 particles of skin every hour. You may not think much about losing skin if yours isn’t dry or flaky or peeling from a sunburn, but your skin is constantly renewing itself and shedding dead cells.

5)Every day an adult body produces 300 billion new cells. Your body not only needs energy to keep your organs up and running but also to constantly repair and build new cells to form the building blocks of your body itself.

6)Scientists have counted over 500 different liver functions. You may not think much about your liver except after a long night of drinking, but the liver is one of the body’s hardest working, largest and busiest organs. Some of the functions your liver performs are: production of bile, decomposition of red blood cells, plasma protein synthesis, and detoxification.

7)You get a new stomach lining every three to four days. The mucus-like cells lining the walls of the stomach would soon dissolve due to the strong digestive acids in your stomach if they weren’t constantly replaced. Those with ulcers know how painful it can be when stomach acid takes its toll on the lining of your stomach

8)Each kidney contains 1 million individual filters. They filter an average of around 1.3 litres (2.2 pints) of blood per minute, and expel up to 1.4 litres (2.5 pints) a day of urine.

9) The focusing muscles of the eyes move around 100,000 times a day. To give your leg muscles the same workout, you would need to walk 80km (50 miles) every day.

10)In 30 minutes, the average body gives off enough heat (combined) to bring a half gallon of water to boil.

Have a great New Year and start by giving big LOVE to your body.

The month of July has kicked off a fun month with a few of the ladies from the So Lean and Clean Plan meeting up and going to the Ruby Chinese Restaurant in Lichfield Staffs, The Ruby knows all about the cooking methods and oils that we use on the plan and prepared us some great tasty dishes. I wanted the ladies to meet up if they wished as all talk daily to each other and its great to have a person to put to the picture on our fat loss site. It also helps to get out and have some fun and show how easy it is to fit the plan around a social lifestyle as so many people think that losing weight means also fore going entertaining and fun nights out.. Not so the case with So Lean and Clean and the next event of ours is  a theatre night in Birmingham to see the amazing  show from the movie Dirty Dancing .
